City of Backnang, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The city of Backnang in Baden-Württemberg, about 27 km northeast of Stuttgart, has a historical half-timbered architecture worth seeing. Until 2010, the historic city center was traditionally illuminated with maintenance -intensive gas lights.

The previous gas lighting should be converted to energy-efficient LED gas light. The historical luminaires should be preserved and equipped with new LED technology.

A total of 106 historical lights were converted to modern, energy-efficient LED lighting with our HIS.LUX inlays. The installation was carried out on site and could be realized quickly and inexpensively. HIS.LUX modules are visually modeled on the faithful glow stump of a gas lantern and thus adapt harmoniously to the existing luminaire.

This measure, which is funded by the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, was the largest LED project for a historical renovation of historical lighting throughout Germany at that time. From an energy and environmental policy perspective, the conversion was a complete success. Instead of 1,600 watts before the conversion, each lamp now only consumes 24 to 43 watts.
